The boat

Aluminium decksaloon sailing yacht, designed by P. Rommel, type Outborn 52.
The hull is reinforced on the bow, ballast tanks are built in such a way that a double hull is create for safety in arctic environment. She was custom built at Damstra Shipyards in Makkum, the Netherlands and launched in 2001.
The Twinga has a lifting keel with a 6000 kilogram counterweight, she is designed to sail in extreme and difficult conditions. The lifting keel can be retracted to 1.65 meter draught, so shallow waters can be reached. The shape of the hull makes emergency beaching possible, the ruders are designed to keep the Twinga upright for dry-out position.
Two times 200 meter ropes stored on drums on the swimming platform are used for mooring in in-accessible places.
